In June 2022, the Government published the White Paper entitled: ‘A Fairer Private Rented Sector’ – dubbed “the biggest shake-up of the PRS in 30 years”. The white paper set out the Government’s long-term vision for the lettings industry.
It took until May 2023 for the Bill to be introduced to Parliament under the Conservative Government. While the bill did make it through all stages in the House of Commons, concluding with the addition of 200 proposed amendments it did not make the wash-up process, and were therefore destined to be delivered by the new Government.
Now, under the labour Government and a new name, the Renters’ Rights Bill has had it’s first reading. So with the bill on a new journey to become law we explain the stages completed and to come, what they mean, and what you can expect to happen next.
